father steve's lecture again taught us a valuable lesson, this time about the importance of knowing yourself, both in terms of your own personal self and your culture, heritage, and national identity. this knowledge inspires confidence, and enables you to better understand and appreciate differences and nuances of other cultures you encounter. this will also allow you to discuss differences or issues with people from other countries, (as Father Steve was originally unable to do) and further learn about them and their culture, as well as your own. while it is important to understand your identity, it is also important, perhaps more so to create your own personal identity, not just blindly follow who your parents are or what they want you to do. be who you want to be, but understand who you are and where you came from.
